What is the Mectron air polisher range?
Mectron's air polishing offering is anchored by the Combi Touch — a combined tabletop unit that pairs Mectron's piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler with an air polishing module in a single chairside device. The Combi Touch sits in the same product category as the Woodpecker PT-E and the NSK Varios Combi Pro2, but with two clinical differentiators that matter for periodontal-focused practices:
- Subgingival nozzle included as standard — not an add-on SKU.
- Validated protocol for subgingival biofilm management in pockets ≥4 mm and peri-implant sites.
Outside the combined unit, Mectron's ultrasonic scaler range (the Mectron piezo modules) is well-regarded for tip variety and surgical adjacencies, but it doesn't sit at the centre of air polishing as a category — the Combi Touch is the unit clinics buy when they want Mectron for prophylaxis.
Why clinics consider Mectron
- Italian premium without EMS pricing — established European brand, refined build quality, mid-premium price tier.
- Subgingival capability built in — particularly valuable for periodontal-heavy practices that don't want a full EMS Perioflow setup.
- Service depth in mainland Europe — for clinics in Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Portugal, Mectron's distributor network is well-staffed and responsive.
- Single-unit consolidation — both scaling and air polishing in one tabletop device.
- Avoids EMS lock-in — no commitment to erythritol powder supply chain or GBT certification overhead.
Powders and consumables
The Combi Touch runs glycine (for biofilm management and subgingival use) and sodium bicarbonate (for supragingival stain removal). Both powders are stocked through Mectron distributors with validated formulations. The Combi Touch is not validated for erythritol — that powder is patent-protected by EMS in Europe.
For most routine prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance, glycine + bicarbonate is the standard powder pair across non-EMS systems. See our erythritol vs glycine explainer for when the erythritol advantage actually matters clinically.
Mectron vs the alternatives
For a full head-to-head comparison see Mectron Combi Touch vs PT-E vs Combi Pro2 vs EMS. Short version:
- vs Woodpecker PT-E — Mectron premium-priced, but includes the subgingival workflow that PT-E often charges extra for. Long European service heritage.
- vs NSK Varios Combi Pro2 — both premium tabletops. Mectron's subgingival nozzle is integrated; NSK requires the separate Perio-Mate handpiece for subgingival. NSK has the M.I.T. EFP S3 alignment story.
- vs EMS Airflow PM / GBT Machine — EMS premium top-tier, with erythritol and GBT certification. Mectron is the mid-premium choice without EMS lock-in.
