Independent estimates. The numbers below are directional estimates based on public pricing tiers as of May 2026. Real pricing varies by country, distributor, configuration, financing terms and bundled training. "5y net" = 5-year air-polishing revenue minus 5-year TCO. Excludes hygienist labour, rent, financing interest, taxes. Higher is better.
How the calculator works
For each clinic input combination, the calculator estimates total cost of ownership across five dimensions:
- Capital cost — list price tier for the device, per operatory.
- Powders — annual powder consumption (kg) × per-kg cost for the brand's signature powder. Subgingival % drives glycine/erythritol mix where applicable.
- Service contract — annual service contract cost, typical 8-12% of capital, summed over 5 years.
- Disposable nozzles — for subgingival sessions, single-use nozzle cost.
- Total cost of ownership — sum of the above, multiplied by operatory count.
Revenue side: sessions/week × operatories × operating weeks/year × patient fee, summed over 5 years.
What the calculator does not include
- Hygienist or operator labour cost — this varies enormously by country and seniority.
- Operatory rent, utilities, insurance allocations.
- Financing interest if you lease rather than buy outright.
- Tax (VAT/sales tax) — quoted figures are typically ex-tax.
- Patient acquisition or hygiene marketing costs.
- Inflation adjustments over the 5-year period.
Net contribution before labour and overhead is the metric this calculator gives you — useful for comparing devices on like-for-like terms.
Honest caveats
- Pricing tiers are directional — they reflect typical positioning, not specific distributor quotes.
- The patient fee assumption matters enormously. Premium clinics may charge €60-100 per session; NHS-anchored UK practices may charge £25-35. The fee swings revenue 2-3x.
- Powder consumption varies with operator technique and case type — the calculator uses sector averages.
- Service costs depend on whether the distributor includes service in capital pricing, sells it as separate contract, or operates time-and-materials.
