What does an EMS Airflow cost?
"EMS Airflow" is the umbrella name for EMS's air polishing product family. Today, depending on your market, the unit a distributor will quote is one of two products:
- The GBT Machine — EMS's current product line, launched at IDS 2025. The default option in most European and North American markets.
- The Airflow Prophylaxis Master — The predecessor, still actively commercialised in markets where the GBT Machine has not yet rolled out (notably parts of Latin America and Asia).
Both units perform the same Guided Biofilm Therapy workflow with Airflow / Perioflow / Piezon technologies. There is no single global list price for either. Final cost depends on:
- Country and applicable taxes (VAT, import duties, etc.).
- The specific EMS configuration (cart, accessories, country-specific tubing).
- Whether GBT training and certification are bundled.
- Trade-in options if your clinic already owns a previous EMS unit.
- Consumable starter packs and ongoing service contracts.
- Financing or leasing terms — many distributors offer multi-year leasing.
Two clinics in different countries — or even two clinics in the same country buying from different distributors — can see materially different total prices for what is functionally the same unit.
Price positioning
EMS Airflow equipment is consistently positioned at the premium end of the air polishing market. The Prophylaxis Master, in particular, is the highest capital-cost mainstream option in the category. The price reflects three things:
- Erythritol validation. EMS holds the European patent on erythritol air polishing powder. The Prophylaxis Master is the only widely-available device in the EU validated to run erythritol — a meaningful clinical differentiator for biofilm-focused protocols.
- Integrated workflow. Airflow + Perioflow + Piezon in a single device, rather than buying three separate units.
- Bundled training. EMS distributors typically include structured training on the device and on Guided Biofilm Therapy. For clinics positioning prophylaxis as a service line, this matters more than the headline number.
What drives variation by country and distributor
- Distribution structure — Some markets have a single EMS master distributor; others have multiple regional dealers.
- Bundled training — GBT certification included in the headline price or sold separately.
- Service contracts — Annual maintenance, warranty extensions, loaner units during repairs.
- Currency and import — Exchange rates, customs, regulatory fees.
- Volume discounts — Multi-chair clinics and DSOs negotiate different pricing than single-chair practices.
Total cost of ownership — what to budget for beyond the unit
- Training — Initial onboarding, optional GBT certification. Confirm what's bundled.
- Consumables — Powders (erythritol-based, sodium bicarbonate), nozzles, disposable inserts. Volume scales with patient throughput and proportion of subgingival cases.
- Service contract — Annual maintenance, calibration, software updates.
- Spare parts — Handpieces, tubing, components over the unit's lifecycle.
- Financing — Multi-year leasing changes the monthly cash impact substantially.

Frequently asked questions
Why don't you publish a specific EMS Airflow price?
Because there isn't a single global list price. Final cost depends on country, distributor, configuration, training package and financing. Publishing a single number would be misleading. The accurate way to know your price is to request a written quote.
Can I buy EMS Airflow directly online?
In most countries, no. EMS professional equipment is sold through authorized distributors who handle pricing, training, installation and service.
Are leasing options available?
Yes — most EMS distributors offer multi-year leasing or financing. Terms vary by country and provider. Ask the distributor to include leasing in the itemized quote.
Is the Airflow Prophylaxis Master the only EMS Airflow option?
EMS has had several Airflow generations over the years. The Prophylaxis Master is the current integrated unit positioned for clinics adopting structured prophylaxis workflows. Earlier-generation Airflow units may still be available in some markets — confirm with the distributor.
